Dr. Shields is a certified member of the American Board of Ophthalmology, an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and a regional lecturer on glaucoma related issues. Welcome to our office! I am a Colorado native, born in 1950. I am married. I have a married daughter and a son. My undergraduate training was at Cornell University with a degree in Engineering Physics. Then I switched to study medicine and received my medical degree from the University of Colorado Medical Center. I finished a rotating internship at Denver's Presbyterian Medical Center in 1977. My ophthalmology residency was at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. I was trained as a glaucoma fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Board certification with the American Board of Ophthalmology was achieved in 1981. Since then I have been in private practice with subspecialty care in Glaucoma.

I am pleased to have membership with the American Glaucoma Society (AGS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (CSEPS). My work also includes being a glaucoma pharmaceutical research investigator and a regional lecturer on glaucoma.
